Shandra LaMotte on How A Mother’s Relationship with Her Body Impacts Her Daughter’s Own Body Image

In today’s guest interview, Angie welcomes back Shandra LaMotte, Teen Empowerment Coach, to have an honest conversation on the impact of a mother’s relationship with her own body impacts her daughter’s own bod image and navigating body image, disordered eating and eating disorders as a mother. As shared in her last guest appearance on the show, Shandra has worked extensively with teens to help them build confidence, self-acceptance, and their voice. Angie is so exited to have Shandra back to share on this important topic for every parent.

Throughout the conversation, Angie and Shandra share insight on navigating the body image conversation with your daughter and hope the episode leaves each listener with a better understanding of the struggles faced within body image concerns and ways to give and receive the self-love for one’s body.

Shandra is also a Lead Facilitator for a transformational organization called COR and the Director of Training and Programming for COR's non-profit branch for teens.
She started her career as a middle school special ed teacher in Oakland. As she started to burn out as a teacher, she realized that her true passion lied in fostering self-acceptance, leadership, and self-esteem in young women/ That's when she became a Teen Empowerment Coach dedicated to supporting teens realize their gifts and navigate the emotional ups and downs of their teenage years. She has combined her love of teaching with her passion for personal development, concentrating on COR facilitation, a thriving personal coaching practice, and teen group programs.
Shandra has a degree in psychology and education from UC Berkeley. She's been trained in therapy modalities such as somatic experiencing, Gestalt therapy, parts work, non-violent communication, and mindfulness practices. She's completed a 400-hour Transformational Leadership and Advanced Facilitation Training through COR, where she enhanced and refined her coaching, counseling, and facilitation skills.
She is currently working on the development of new group transformational programs for teens through the CCF designed to support teens in fostering self-compassion, healthy communication tools, and a healthy body image.
